A Fall Protection Curriculum for Apprentice Carpenters

Date: Wednesday, February 18
Time: 2:00pm - 3:15pm
Location: Donald E. Stephens Convention Center
Code: 3G

Description:
This session will present a school-based carpenter apprentice fall prevention training curriculum designed to address knowledge gaps, misperceptions, and unsafe behaviors identi-fied through apprentice surveys and worksite audits. Innovative learning experiences introduced early in the 4-year apprentice-ship program and reinforced regularly have been embraced by both the trainers and apprentices. Use of adult learning principles and training props improve apprentice participation and applica-tion of concepts. Evaluation of the revised training suggests that apprentice knowledge and attitudes are changing. Preliminary assessment of the results of this revised training on fall preven-tion behaviors at residential worksites will be presented.
