Suddenly, From Out of the Darkness… Staying Safe in Night Time Work Zones

Date: Tuesday, February 17, 2009
Time: 9:00am - 10:15am
Location: Donald E. Stephens Convention Center
Code: 2A

Description:
Construction work on or near active lanes of traffic is hazardous for both workers and the traveling public. Add the hazard of darkness that comes with performing road repair or rebuilding at night and the chances are increased for crashes with serious injuries and fatalities. We are entering a period of increased emphasis on rebuilding and extending our nation’s roads, with a push by state and federal regulators to perform more of this work at night. This session will help participants to review their work zone safety practices to ensure that work dur-ing hours of darkness has been preplanned to eliminate crashes caused by worker and/or driver fatigue, impairment, lighting, internal traffic control issues, etc. Attendees will take away proven techniques and tools that will focus on reducing the risk posed by working under reduced lighting conditions.
