9F    Workzone Safety and the Construction Worker (Intermediate)

Workzone safety has become a major concern for state trans-portation agencies due to the increase in the number of workzone fatalities. This presentation will discuss the findings of research studies funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Joint Transportation research program in three major areas: a)causes of fatal occupational accidents in workzones; b) speed control strategies and c)use of high-visibility personal protective equipment (PPE). The presentation will include an interactive component that explores the use of new technologies for improving workzone safety.
