Despite OSHA standards to specify safe work practices, fatali-ties involving trench collapse, confined space entry and other exca-vation hazards continue to occur. Many workers lack proper training and may have poor English skills. This presentation addresses criti-cal hazards of sewer and pipeline construction: how to instruct work-ers to test the atmosphere, toxic sewer gas, explosive atmospheres, oxygen deficiency, basic emergency response, trench fall protection, self rescue, recognizing exposure symptoms, and when you should call in the advance standby rescue team.
